How do I get started?

Sports Tournament Director is for managing tennis tournaments, so the first thing to do is to add players who will participate in your tournaments. Do that by creating them in My Players and using the Add a new player button to create a new player.

How do I use teams?

Teams are used for Team Duel tournaments. These tournaments pit teams against one another and total up the number of matches won by each team to determine which team is the winner of the tournament.

Create teams by going to My Teams and using the Add a new team button to create a new team. Give your team a name and add players to your team by using the Add player button. You can assign positions to your players to help get them in the right matches when making your tournaments.

What kinds of tournaments can I create?

The following types of tournaments are supported:

  • Consolation

Similar to Round Robin, Consolation tournaments give every competitor an equal number of matches. When a competitor loses, they are not eliminated from the tournament, but instead move to the consolation bracket. The winners of these brackets are used to determine the final standings.

  • Double Elimination

Double elimination tournaments are used to guarantee that every player gets to play at least two matches. When a player loses a match, instead of being eliminated right away, the player is moved to a Losers bracket. A loss in this bracket results in elimination from the tournament. The winner of the Losers bracket plays the winner of the main bracket, resulting in a possibility of a final match repeat.

  • Round Robin

Round Robin tournaments are used to give every competitor an equal number of matches. In this type of tournament, every competitor will face every other competitor. The winner of the tournament is determined by adding up the number of match wins by each competitor. The competitor with the most match wins is declared the winner.

Because Round Robin tournaments guarantee the same number of matches for every competitor and that every competitor will face all the others, they have a lot of matches. This works well for giving every player an equal opportunity, but can result in very lengthy tournaments.

  • Single Elimination

Single Elimination tournaments are used when a single loss eliminates a player from the tournament. This is the type of tournament used is well known tennis tournaments around the world.

Compared to other types of elimination tournaments, single elimination tournaments have the fewest matches overall. This allows a large number of competitors to participate, but half of the competitors only get to play one match.

  • Team Duel

Team Duel tournaments are used when the winner of a tournament is a team instead of an individual or doubles partnership. These are typically when one school or club is competing against another school or club.

The winner of a Team Duel tournament is determined by adding up the wins by team members in each match. The team whose players score the most match wins is declared the winner.

For example, City High School is competing against Mountain High School. Each school team has first and second singles players and first and second doubles players. The first singles players from each team play a match, the second singles players from each team play a match, and so on for the doubles players. At the end of these four matches, the match wins are added up by team. If the City High player wins the first singles match, Mountain High wins the second singles match, and City High wins the two doubles matches, then City High School is the tournament winner.

How do I share my tournament?

Once you have created a tournament, go to My Tournaments and find your tournament. Then use the View QR code button to generate a QR code that you can send to others or post around your tournament location. When someone scans your QR code they will immediately be taken to your tournament results.

Feel free to use this QR code in tournament promotional material or any other way that will help spread the news about your tournament. The more people can easily find your tournament results, the happier they will be!

How do I collaborate with others?

Collaborating with others makes creating tournaments between schools, clubs, or other team-based organizations quick and easy. Mutual contacts share their team rosters, making matchups a breeze!

To start, you need to make contact with the other team's coaches or director. Do that by finding them in My Contacts and using the Add button to add them as a contact. Once added, their players will appear in the matches you create.

You can only add contacts of other users on Sports Tournament Director. If they don't appear, encourage them to create an account and become a subscriber. There are group subscriptions available for school districts, college conferences, and enterprise accounts. Contact us for more information.
